For more than 20 years, the locally renowned R.U.S.H Complex in Kakamega, Western Kenya has been far more than a building—it has been a sanctuary of hope, healing, and transformation. Within its walls, the community found family. Lives were rebuilt, futures restored, and countless hearts uplifted.
The complex served as the heartbeat of R.U.S.H: a place where fellowship meetings and anniversaries brought people together, and a home to our Carpentry School, Tailoring School, Computer School, and Adult Education classes, which empowered both youth and adults to rise above poverty.
But its impact reached even further.
It was here that widows and orphans found support, dignity, and a place to belong. It was here that our feeding program ensured that vulnerable children never went to bed hungry. It was here that some medical camps were held—providing lifesaving care, treatments, and screenings to people who would otherwise have had no access to medical services. Many lives were saved within those walls.
This place was not just a structure.
It was a lifeline.
Then came November 2025.
At the start of the month, the Government of Kenya moved to reclaim the land on which the complex sat—land leased by R.U.S.H founders, Lucy and Andrew Amukowa. Although the lease was still active, there was no room for negotiation. Bulldozers had already lined up.
On Tuesday, November 4th, during a worship session at our fellowship meeting, government officials abruptly stormed in. Their instructions were urgent and devastating:
“Evacuate immediately. The building is being demolished today.”
Shock and heartbreak filled the room. Members rushed to salvage what little they could as decades of memories, service, and sacrifice stood moments away from destruction. The government disregarded the ongoing lease, leaving R.U.S.H without any legal standing—only the painful reality that everything built over two decades was being torn down.
The building was lost.
And with it, the home that carried thousands of stories of transformation.
Today, R.U.S.H has nowhere to call home.
Our vocational training center, once a pillar of empowerment, now hangs in uncertainty. The safe spaces for widows, orphans, and vulnerable families are gone. The feeding program has no kitchen. The medical outreach has no base of operations. And the community that relied on R.U.S.H faces a future clouded with worry and loss.
But even in this moment of grief, we refuse to give up.
We need your help.
As we stand at this critical crossroads, we are calling on all who believe in compassion, empowerment, and community transformation to stand with us.
We urgently need support to secure a new home for R.U.S.H and restore full operations.
The livelihoods of our trainees, the safety of our orphans and widows, and the continuity of our life-saving programs depend on it.
💛Together, we can rebuild.
💛Together, we can restore hope.
💛Together, we can ensure that the legacy of R.U.S.H continues to shine across Kakamega and beyond.
Please stand with R.U.S.H. Help us rise again.
