At the core of RUSH UK lies a story of friendship, resilience, and unwavering commitment to service. Founded by Joan Hadlow, our journey began with a chance encounter in 1998 in Nairobi, where Joan crossed paths with Lucy and Andrew Amukowa.
Moved by Lucy and Andrew's dedication to their community despite facing adversity, Joan and her companions embarked on a journey of support. From humble beginnings in the Kibera slum to the bustling town of Kakamega, the seeds of empowerment were sown, giving rise to Reaching the Unreached through Self-Help (RUSH Kenya).
In 2006, fueled by the vision of educators from the UK, RUSH UK emerged as an independent charity, championing the cause of empowerment and community development. Over the years, our efforts have touched countless lives, from providing essential aid to women and children to fostering education, entrepreneurship, and healthcare initiatives.
As trustees and supporters of RUSH UK, we have witnessed the evolution of our projects firsthand. From the inception of the Rush Schools to the expansion of adult education programs, each milestone reflects our unwavering dedication to sustainable impact.
Looking ahead, we are committed to fostering accountability and sustainability within our operations. Under a new era of leadership, we are laying the groundwork for a trained management team in Kenya, ensuring that the legacy of empowerment initiated by Lucy and Andrew endures for generations to come.
Join us in writing the next chapter of our story, as we continue to uplift communities, transform lives, and inspire hope. Your friendship and support fuel our journey, guiding us towards a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
