Welcome To RUSH UK

The Origin Story of RUSH UK
RUSH UK's journey traces back to a transformative encounter in 1998, when our Founder and Chairperson, Joan Hadlow, crossed paths with Lucy and Andrew Amukowa in Nairobi. Amidst supporting a project in the Kibera slum, where Lucy and Andrew resided, Joan witnessed Lucy's active engagement in community assistance. What began as a connection blossomed into a deep friendship, leading Joan and a group of companions to rally behind Lucy and Andrew's initiatives.
By 2002, as Lucy and Andrew transitioned from the slum to Kakamega, Joan spearheaded efforts to secure resources for their resettlement, including the acquisition of land and the construction of a home. Motivated by their own challenging upbringings as orphans, Lucy and Andrew harboured a profound commitment to empowering their community, especially marginalized women and children.
From these humble yet resolute beginnings, Reaching the Unreached through Self-Help (RUSH Kenya) emerged, embodying the collective vision of empowerment and transformation. Today, RUSH UK stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of collaboration, compassion, and the relentless pursuit of positive change.
